Rancho el Chivito

Everyone has come into season at least once so far. As near as I can figure, we're going to have at least one doe in heat every week from now till March, as we're not breeding this year. I guess that's better than having them all in heat at the same time...hopefully they won't develop the "women's dorm syndrome" and synchronize their heats...it could get ugly...There's a buck about a quarter mile away who our older does know, as he was a baby with them in their original herd, and when one of our girls makes her hey-baby-come-get-some call, he answers, then the catterwalling really starts! It's going to be a noisy winter.

Veronica came into heat for the first time today. We had to separate the little girls to keep TomTom-The-Wether-Who-Thinks-He's-A-Buck away from her. He's so big, he kept slamming her to the ground and we figured it was only a matter of time before she gets hurt. Here's a pic of Ronnie in more innocent days. Blanca was so patient with them when they were babies and using her to play queen on the mountain. :-)

I'm still figuring out what to do with this blog. Editing the links on the right side and fiddling with the tags. Meantime, here are some photos. You can click on them for a larger version.
